Chaplaincy |
|
Students from either university or any of the city's language schools are welcome to attend our Divine Liturgy and other meetings. Indeed we would at the moment welcome anyone who can sing and preferably read music to assist with the choir. We use both Russian and Byzantine chant. Reception of the Holy Gifts at the Divine Liturgy is restricted to Chrismated members of the Orthodox church, according to Orthodox custom. Orthodoxy sees reception as a sign of Unity, not a route to it. All, however, are welcome to receive the blessed bread (antidoron) as part of the Christian fellowship of Holy Orthodoxy. In order to underpin the chaplaincy there is a core of Orthodox people living locally who are also members of the Community. They are a mix of current students or past Orthodox students, and other local Orthodox people . Hence worship continues, and members are held in prayer during the vacations as well as during term. Indeed we always welcome people from Summer Schools and the like. On the 'Contact' page you can email us if you will be coming to university here in York, and get in touch with us straight away. We like to hear from you. |
